Here's Why You Should Not Trust The Influencers

The Social Media Magic Show certainly piques your interest, doesn't it? Imagine, though, if I were to tell you that relying on influencers is akin to chasing a mirage. In the social media world, there exists a charismatic cohort, often donned as modern-day magicians—the Influencers! These individuals wield a unique blend of charm, charisma, and digital prowess that hypnotises audiences and shapes online trends. Much like magicians who dazzle with illusions, influencers have the ability to create spellbinding stories using the threads of their curated personas and carefully crafted content. It's a world where perception and reality often blur, creating a mesmerising spectacle that leaves audiences both enchanted and, perhaps, a tad deceived. And especially among young people, these influencers are seen as role models and trendsetters. As a result, influencers have promoted products that promise to enhance their followers’ lifestyles through “aspirational” content. Social influencers have become the new digital celebrities that young adults look up to and aspire to because of the growing importance of social media in their lives. The credibility of these social influencers as trustworthy online information sources makes them effective spokespersons for brands and products. Nowadays, it is common for young adults to view social influencers' social media accounts as catalogues representing lifestyles they aspire to lead. They create a magical world with beautiful pictures, fun videos, and cool stories. But guess what? It's all a magic trick – not everything is as real as it seems. Now, I will tell you pointwise why I'm saying this.

1. Picture Perfect Illusions:

Imagine looking at a photo on social media. What did you see? A perfect painting, right? Well, influencers are like artists, but instead of using paint, they use filters and editing tools. I need not remind you how many times Khloe Kardashian has been called out for using face altering filters and setting the oh-so unrealistic standards for natural beauty, The pictures might not show the real deal; instead, they show us the parts they want us to see. They hide their imperfections for a picture-perfect frame. Furthermore, the prevalence of so-called "unrealistic body standards" perpetuates feelings of body dissatisfaction and can even lead to the development of eating disorders among those who follow these influencers. However, let me assure you, my friend, perfection is not a trait inherent in anyone in this world! Each person possesses their unique set of natural imperfections, and it's in these imperfections that true beauty often resides.

2. The "Real" vs. "Instagram Real":

So, you know how these Influencers are all about being "real," right? But honestly, it's like they've got two versions of themselves – the chill, messy-hair, no-makeup Sunday morning self and the polished, Instagram-ready persona. It's a bit like having a split personality, one for the 'gram and one for real life.

And let's not limit this realness talk to just Instagram; we're also considered the wild world of YouTube. Take this YouTuber, "SSSNIPERWOLF," with a massive 34 million followers. She's not just about makeup tutorials; she's got a whole saga going on. So, get this – she accused another YouTuber, "Azzyland," of copying her style, and her followers, mostly teenagers, totally bought it. Poor Azzyland got hit with a tsunami of hate. I mean, seriously, they went all out, harassing her like it was their full-time job. But here's where it gets seriously messed up. When someone tried to call out SSSNIPERWOLF for her shady moves, she didn't just stop at online drama. Oh no, she dropped the guy's home address! And you won't believe what happened next – her followers started camping outside his place, causing all sorts of chaos for him and his partner.

It's like these Influencers are playing with fire, not realizing that their "real" antics can have some seriously real consequences. They might be chasing clout, but sometimes, they're just lighting the fuse to a whole social media explosion. Wild, right?

3. Sponsored Stories:

Have you ever clocked those influencers pushing products? It's like a full-blown commercial but disguised as a post on their page. And get this – they might be raking in cash just to chat about stuff. The crazy part? They might not give a hoot whether the product is legit or a total scam. Lately, scams have been raining down on us via social media. How? Well, there are these influencers with follower counts in the millions. They go ahead and endorse a Gaming App, claiming it can double your money. They toss it up on their stories, swearing they've used it, it's the best, and it's as safe as a grandma's secret cookie recipe. So, their followers, thinking they've hit the jackpot, invest their hard-earned bucks. But guess what happens when they try to cash out? The App owners pull a Houdini and start quoting a million rules and regulations. When the poor folks turn to the influencers for a lifeline, one of them pulls a total nope move, saying, "Not my problem. I never told you to invest."

So, when these influencers go on about how something is amazing, are they genuinely head over heels for it, or are they just cashing in on a fat paycheck? It's like trying to suss out if a superhero's rocking a costume or if that's their legit everyday outfit!

4. The Circle of Same:

Influencers often hang out with people who are just like them. It's like having a group where everyone thinks and acts the same way. Imagine walking into an influencer's party, and it feels like you've stepped into a room filled with mirrors. Everyone reflects the same ideas, wears the same trendy clothes, and even sips the same exotic drinks. It's not just a gathering; it's a symphony of sameness, where the playlist of thoughts, preferences, and opinions echoes in perfect harmony. The bubble they've created is not just a social circle; it's a curated echo chamber where every voice bounces off the walls in agreement. It's like a DJ spinning the same track on repeat – catchy at first, but after a while, you start wondering if there's more to the musical universe than this one familiar tune.

5. Trendy Today, Old Tomorrow:

In the influencer world, things change super-fast. What's cool today might be boring tomorrow. Trusting influencers for everything might feel like trying to catch bubbles – they look nice, but they can pop and disappear in a second! And it also can be heavy in your pocket.

6. The Mystery Behind the Magic:

Now, Think of influencers like magicians on a stage. They perform cool tricks that make us go, "Wow!". But here's the secret: just like in a magic show, there's a hidden story. It's the behind-the-curtain, behind-the-scenes part of the influencer's life. You see them smiling, posing, and having fun, but there's a whole behind-the-scenes story we don't know. Here's the scoop: influencers are like artists crafting a unique image. They spin tales, conjure up creative pictures – all in the name of entertaining us, especially the young adults. It's their way of becoming the rockstars of the internet, making people sit up and take notice of their posts, and building a brand that's as real and unique as it gets. And you know what? People eat it up because it's fun, easy to spot, and downright entertaining. So, no surprise, the young adults end up hitting that follow button.

So, the next time you're scrolling through the magical world of influencers, remember it's a bit like watching a show. Enjoy the fun, but don't forget that not everything is as real as it looks. It's okay to like the magic, but always keep a bit of magic-scepticism in your pocket!
